About The Position

Family Farm and Home is a family-owned and operated retailer founded in Michigan in 2002. It operates 71 retail locations across Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, Maryland, and Pennsylvania, selling products across areas including tools, hardware, automotive, pet, apparel, footwear, farm supplies, feed, lawn and garden, and alternative heating. The Assistant Manager’s primary responsibility is to manage the store in the Store Manager’s absence while exemplifying and supporting the company’s culture and values. The role requires leadership, team motivation and supervision, and knowledge of merchandising, shrink control, and store operations. The Assistant Manager helps drive sales and profits through merchandising, inventory management, expense control, human resource management, and control of operating costs. The position also involves understanding the local market, customer base, seasonality, and competitors, and managing time to achieve budgeted goals. Requirements

Ability to understand and interpret statistical or numerical data and use it to assess and coordinate merchandise and store operations when the Store Manager is absent.
Detail orientation and ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to stand for extended periods.
Ability to move and handle boxes of merchandise and fixtures throughout the store.
Ability to climb ladders, reach, bend, twist, kneel, and lift up to 50 lbs.
Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, evenings, and holidays.

Responsibilities

Promote the Family Farm and Home mission statement and family values.
Help the Store Manager foster an aggressive sales culture focused on superior customer service.
Help hire, coach, counsel, discipline, and, when necessary, fire team members; plan, monitor, and evaluate their work.
Maintain professionalism and positive store morale.
Support execution of store responsibilities through key associates and personal actions.
Schedule and assign employees and follow up on work results.
Provide feedback to buyers, district managers, and other company officials.
Help prepare the annual budget, schedule expenditures, analyze variances, and initiate corrective actions to achieve financial objectives.
Build rapport with current and potential customers to identify their needs.
Establish relationships with and support local community groups consistent with company values.
Encourage customers to enroll in company programs, including the loyalty program, extended warranties, financing, and item of the month.
Manage and protect inventory and company assets from theft and damage in accordance with company policy.
Verify that merchandise is received, stored, and merchandised according to operational and safety procedures.
Protect team members and customers by complying with legal requirements and maintaining a safe, clean store.
Help determine changes to marketing strategy by reviewing operating and financial statements and departmental sales records.
Help maintain consistent operations by initiating, coordinating, and enforcing operational and personnel policies and procedures.
Perform other duties assigned by the Store Manager or a company official.
