About The Position

The Assistant Manager assists and consults with the Store Manager on overall store operations and administrative duties, including determining methods and approaches for accomplishing store goals. The role requires knowledge of each product area or department and adherence to policies, procedures, and standards in the visual manual. The Assistant Manager promotes merchandise and provides outstanding customer service. In the Store Manager’s absence, the Assistant Manager assumes supervisory control and is trained in the Store Manager’s responsibilities. This position supports personnel recruiting, training, and evaluation; helps manage inventory, sales, expenses, and profitability; guides employees and customers; and ensures departmental responsibilities and service standards are met. The Assistant Manager also helps protect company assets and financial information by following internal controls and reporting potential fraud risks.

Requirements

Experience working in a retail environment; footwear and athletic apparel experience is preferred.
1–3 years of customer service experience.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to assist in managing a team and keep up with overall goals and profits.
Self-starter with initiative to take on important tasks without being asked.
Strong attention to detail and ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and precisely.

Responsibilities

Assist the Store Manager in controlling company assets.
Consult with the Store Manager on action plans for store and departmental responsibilities, including selling, restocking, merchandising, ordering, and scheduling.
Assume responsibility for the entire store in the Store Manager’s absence.
Assist with personnel recruiting, training, and evaluation.
Provide employees and customers with knowledge and guidance across departments as needed.
Monitor inventory, sales statistics, and expenses to support profitability.
Direct staff to ensure departmental responsibilities and standards are completed.
Keep the Store Manager informed about inventory movement and customer trends.
Ensure quality customer service is maintained, including assisting customers as they enter and helping multiple customers during peak periods.
Promote and sell company services and merchandise.
Uphold company policies, procedures, and standards in the operations, personnel, visual, and customer service manuals and company communications.
Protect company assets and financial information by ensuring internal control procedures are accurate and effective and informing management or appropriate officials of potential fraud risks.
Perform general administrative duties as needed and train in the Store Manager’s responsibilities.
Supervise employees in the Store Manager’s absence, including interviewing and training employees, planning and assigning work, directing work, and resolving problems.
