About The Position

The Assistant Manager of Health Wellness Home helps lead Hy-Vee store operations and supports a team focused on delivering an exceptional customer experience. The role models Hy-Vee's values of honesty, integrity, and genuine care, while ensuring the departments under its oversight operate effectively. The assistant manager supervises employees across multiple departments, supports departmental goals and profitability, and assists with store operations, staffing, merchandising, safety, and customer service. The position reports to and receives direction from the Store Director and Store Manager, and is accountable to those roles. Direct reports include all positions except those listed above or as designated by the Store Manager. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Ability to lead and motivate a team across multiple departments in a fast-paced retail environment.
Ability to solve practical problems and make sound decisions involving a variety of variables.
Basic math skills, including fractions, decimals, and percentages.
Clear written and verbal communication with customers, employees, and vendors.
Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.

Nice To Haves

One or more years of retail experience, including performing Service Manager duties.

Responsibilities

Deliver outstanding customer service by greeting customers warmly and helping make each visit positive.
Supervise and coordinate employees across assigned departments, ensuring customer service, employee relations, and profitability standards are met.
Oversee employee training, address employee issues, and coordinate disciplinary procedures as needed.
Evaluate employee performance and recommend personnel actions, including promotions, transfers, and dismissals.
Determine locations for advertising and promotional displays and ensure product quality and quantities meet customer and store demands.
Assist in forecasting and reviewing the store labor schedule within Store Manager guidelines.
Oversee building and grounds maintenance, sanitation, and store cleanliness in accordance with store and company guidelines.
Ensure compliance with store accounting procedures and report potential problems.
Direct merchandise ordering in assigned areas and recommend product additions, deletions, and shelf allocation.
Work with department heads on schedules, labor, product purchasing, and merchandising to meet departmental goals.
Train employees on safety procedures and enforce them; complete customer accident forms and first reports of injury, and assign duties according to restrictions.
Assist with replenishing shelf product and designing and constructing displays.
Recruit and interview applicants and help coordinate orientations.
Handle cash registers and process inter-store transfers as needed.
Handle confidential information, including pricing, sales reports, and wages, with discretion.
Stay current on market trends, new products, equipment, and merchandising techniques.
Follow Hy-Vee's dress code, hygiene standards, and company policies.
Assist in all store areas as needed and take on special projects.
