About The Position

Provides direct supports to individuals with disabilities and role models such supports to DSPs by assisting with living skills, communicating and interacting with individuals served, facilitating community inclusion, maintaining an appropriate physical environment, providing transportation, maintaining finances, implementing the ISP and demonstrating the importance of individuals becoming active citizens in their neighborhoods and local communities and work environments.

Requirements

  • A standard high school diploma or GED is required.
  • An acceptable three-year Motor Vehicle Report is required.
  • Social Security Card is required.
  • Driver's license with F endorsement, if not a Georgia or Alabama license.
  • Basic computer skills required.
  • Ability to read and write the English language.
  • On-going background checks and random drug and alcohol screenings.
  • Successful completion of the required physical examination by an approved Orange Grove physician.
  • All applicants are required to have a physical and be found to be in good physical health.

Responsibilities

  • Provide the supports required per departmental guidelines.
  • Understand and implement current state licensing rules and regulations, agency policies and procedures and protection of individual consumer rights and protection from harm.
  • Develop and implement curriculum for each individual to ensure a meaningful day.
  • Work closely with appropriate disciplines (PT, OT, Speech, Nursing, BA Services, etc.) to ensure continuity of care for individuals served.
  • Communicate effectively in writing and orally, complete various office tasks and utilize the computer effectively.
  • Supervise direct support staff.
  • Assist in evaluation of performance, provide input relative to hiring/termination of personnel and implement appropriate progressive discipline as needed.
  • Ensure all required training is completed timely.
  • Follow the staffing plan and secure staff to fill-in when vacancies occur due to staff illness, resignation, vacation, etc.
  • Provide direct support to individuals with disabilities; lifting, turning, positioning, bathing, toileting, grooming, etc.
  • Ensure that individuals are safe and living healthy lives by monitoring safety issues, coordinating, monitoring and documenting medical supports, practicing appropriate emergency procedures, responding to emergencies, and promoting individual rights regarding health and safety issues.
  • Transport individuals.
  • Ensure pre-trip/post-trip inspections are completed as required.
  • Attend all scheduled meetings/appointments.
  • Prepare/post menu's and/or prepare meals according to mealtime card and dietary orders.
  • Support individuals in their employment and vocational opportunities.
  • Ensure completion of housekeeping duties.
  • Administer medication according to company medication administration policy.
  • Complete and submit required departmental reports timely.
  • Clock in and out daily and confirm employee punches daily.
  • Ensure that required departmental data (daily notes, monthly reviews, etc.) is collected and recorded appropriately.
  • Purchase items, manage budget and individual spending money.
  • Submit receipts per departmental guidelines.
  • Conduct/Document/participate in monthly fire drills.
  • Maintain confidentiality of individuals served.
  • Demonstrate teamwork and promote positive interactions and attitudes among staff, parents and all stakeholders.
  • Show dependability by being punctual and maintaining consistent attendance.
