About The Position

As a Mechanical Associate, you will inspect and/or diagnose, repair, and recondition vehicles to ensure they meet CarMax standards for safety, reliability, and performance. Work may involve engines, brakes, steering, and suspension systems. You will collaborate with a skilled team and gain hands-on experience with domestic and foreign vehicles.

The role is based in a modern, climate-controlled facility. CarMax provides ongoing training and advanced tools. Associates are expected to follow Environmental, Health and Safety requirements and maintain a clean, orderly work area.

Requirements

• Experience in engine repair, steering and suspension, brakes, and HVAC systems, based on the needs of the role.
• Strong understanding of health and safety compliance.
• Ability to lift heavy objects and work on your feet for extended periods.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced setting.
• Excellent communication skills and attention to detail.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Where required by state or local law, maintain ASE certifications in Steering and Suspension (A4), Brakes (A5), Heating Air Conditioning (A7), Electrical (A6), Engine Repair (A1), Manual Drive Train and Axles (A3), Engine Performance (A8), and Automatic Transmission/Transaxle (A2).

Benefits

• Sign-on bonus of up to $10,000 for eligible external candidates hired, based on experience level.
• Paid sick time: up to 48 hours per year, accrued each pay period, for eligible full-time hourly or commission/incentive-eligible associates.
• Paid vacation: 80 to 200 hours per year after a 90-day waiting period, depending on years of continuous service, for eligible full-time hourly or commission/incentive-eligible associates.
• Paid holidays: eight hours of pay for each of six scheduled paid holidays per year, plus one floating holiday, for eligible full-time hourly or commission/incentive-eligible associates.
• Holiday Premium Pay for eligible associates who work on a scheduled holiday due to business need.
• Full-time salaried associates receive paid time away as needed for sick leave, vacation, bereavement, jury duty, holidays, and floating holidays, subject to manager approval.
