About The Position

The Sioux Falls Police Department is offering a 10-week, full-time internship for Summer 2027. The start date is flexible within late May or early June 2027, and the department will do its best to accommodate interns’ schedules throughout the summer.

Interns will participate in activities across various areas of the department, which may include Investigative Services, Traffic, Patrol, School/Community Resource Officers, the Crime Lab, K9, and Training. They will also assist with community events such as National Night Out, Coffee with a Cop, and the SFPD Citizen’s Police Academy.

Applicants must be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university and meet the stated GPA and academic-year requirements. Applicants must also pass preemployment screenings, which may include a drug screen and background check. The selection process may include an application review, hiring interview, and criminal background check.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university.
• Have a GPA of 2.5 or above.
• Students in a four-year program must have completed at least their second year via credits.
• Students in a two-year program may be in their first or second year.
• Pass preemployment screenings, which may include a drug screen and background check.

Responsibilities
