About The Position

HOKALI is seeking six enthusiastic and dedicated Algebra Tutors to provide targeted math support and academic guidance to groups of 15–20 students in classroom settings across four middle schools and two high schools in the MDUSD program in Concord, California. Tutors will help students build algebra skills and academic confidence. The program includes 57 sessions from January 12 through May 27, 2027, and requires one onsite training session starting December 7, plus three hours of online training before sessions begin.

The weekly schedule is three days per week between Monday and Thursday, with two hours per site per day. The role pays $35 per hour based on active program hours. HOKALI provides structured lesson plans while allowing tutors flexibility to bring their own ideas.

Requirements

• Be at least 18 years of age.
• Have strong proficiency in middle school and high school Algebra concepts.
• Attend the mandatory onsite training session in December and complete three hours of online training before sessions begin.
• Have a proven ability to manage and engage groups of 15–20 students.
• Have strong interpersonal, communication, and classroom management skills.

Responsibilities

• Deliver engaging and effective Algebra instruction and support to groups of 15–20 students simultaneously.
• Help middle and high school students master fundamental algebraic concepts, problem-solving techniques, and homework assignments.
• Foster a positive, structured, and encouraging learning environment.
• Manage classroom dynamics and student behavior using positive reinforcement.
• Track student attendance, engagement, and academic progress across scheduled sessions.
• Maintain clear communication with school staff and site coordinators.
• Prepare instructional materials and ensure learning spaces remain safe, organized, and clean.
