About The Position

HOKALI is seeking six enthusiastic and dedicated Algebra Tutors to provide targeted math support and academic guidance to groups of 15–20 students in classroom settings. The program serves four middle schools and two high schools in Concord, California, and runs for 57 sessions from January 12 through May 27, 2027, following a mandatory onsite training session in December. Tutors help students build algebra knowledge, problem-solving skills, and academic confidence. The role is suited to people who are passionate about math education, confident facilitating groups, and committed to supporting student success.

The schedule is three days per week between Monday and Thursday, with two hours per site per day. Tutors must attend the mandatory onsite training and complete three hours of online training before sessions begin. Compensation is $35 per hour for active program hours.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Strong proficiency in middle school and high school Algebra concepts.
• Ability and willingness to attend the mandatory onsite training in December.
• Ability and willingness to complete three hours of online training before sessions begin.
• Proven ability to manage and engage groups of 15–20 students.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and classroom management skills.

Responsibilities

• Deliver engaging and effective Algebra instruction and support to groups of 15–20 students simultaneously.
• Help middle and high school students master fundamental algebraic concepts, problem-solving techniques, and homework assignments.
• Foster a positive, structured, and encouraging learning environment.
• Manage classroom dynamics and student behavior using positive reinforcement.
• Track student attendance, engagement, and academic progress across scheduled sessions.
• Communicate clearly with school staff and site coordinators.
• Prepare instructional materials and ensure learning spaces remain safe, organized, and clean.
