About The Position

RWS is seeking a Lingala-speaking contributor for a speech data collection project supporting the evaluation and development of AI technologies. The project involves providing spontaneous speech from real-life situations. Recordings, annotations, and related metadata may be reviewed for quality and incorporated into datasets for research, development, testing, and improvement of AI systems.

This is freelance, remote, task-based work with a flexible schedule of approximately 2–4 hours daily. The project duration is to be confirmed, and the stated rate is 8 USD per hour. Contributors will use an online recording platform and follow project-specific recording and annotation instructions.

Requirements

• Native-level fluency in Lingala.
• Authentic pronunciation and strong familiarity with the target language through everyday use.
• Advanced English proficiency to understand written instructions.
• Do not imitate dialects or accents that are not your own.
• Strong attention to detail when providing annotations and recording metadata.
• Ability to follow detailed project and recording instructions.
• Access to a quiet room or recording space with minimal background noise.
• A computer microphone or headset with a microphone.
• A reliable internet connection.
• Ability to access and use an online recording platform.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with speech recording or data annotation projects is an advantage, but is not required.

Responsibilities

• Record or collect natural, spontaneous speech according to project guidelines.
• Participate in or capture speech from approved real-life situations, such as workplace conversations or casual one-on-one discussions.
• Complete individual or two-person conversational speech tasks, or participate in voice or voice-text interactions with an AI or machine-based system.
• Annotate collected speech data according to the provided instructions.
• Provide required information and metadata for each recording.
