About The Position

Cleveland Clinic Martin Health is seeking a dedicated and skilled Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join its Intensivist team. The Advanced Practice Provider delivers high-quality, evidence-based inpatient care to acutely ill adult patients in collaboration with hospitalists, specialists, surgeons, nursing staff, physicians, and other healthcare professionals. The role is part of a dynamic, team-based environment focused on patient care, safety, and continuous improvement.

The position involves assessing patients, diagnosing conditions, developing and implementing treatment plans, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, prescribing medications within applicable authority, and performing critical care and other procedures as privileged. The provider documents care in the electronic medical record, contributes to rounds and care coordination, supports discharge planning, and participates in quality improvement, education, research follow-up, and data analysis. Work requires sound clinical judgment, critical thinking, professional communication, and the ability to respond appropriately to emergencies and stressful situations.

The schedule is described as variable, with the posting listing a 7:00 p.m.–7:00 a.m. schedule and a day/night rotation. The position is based at Martin Health North in Stuart, Florida.

Requirements

• Current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in Florida.
• National certification by AANP or ANCC for Nurse Practitioners, or NCCPA for Physician Assistants; APRNs must have AGACNP or ACNP certification.
• BLS and ACLS certification.
• Ability to work with multidisciplinary teams and a collaborating physician.
• Excellent clinical judgment, critical thinking, problem-solving, and procedural skills.
• Strong interpersonal, customer service, written, and verbal communication skills.
• Demonstrated competency in advanced assessment and diagnosis and ability to use an electronic medical record.
• Ability to work independently, exercise decisive judgment, and work in a stressful environment.
• Demonstrated moral and ethical conduct, compassion, professionalism, and commitment to excellent patient care.
• Oral and written communication skills in English.
• For APRNs: graduate of an accredited APRN program; MSN required upon hire or within three years of hire for applicable external hires and internal hires moving from a non-APRN role. Must also hold RN licensure and have arrangements with at least one physician as required by the applicable State Board of Nursing.
• For PAs: graduate of an A.R.C.-approved Physician Assistant program and a master's degree in Physician Assistant Studies or higher degree recognized by the applicable state licensing board. Must hold the required license to practice and prescribe and a Physician Supervision Agreement with signed addendum.
• Required credentialing and privileges from the Medical Executive Committee and Governing Body of applicable hospitals.
• Physical ability to walk and stand for long periods, perform examinations requiring manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination, and occasionally lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to meet corrected vision and hearing requirements and follow standard precautions using required personal protective equipment.

Nice To Haves

• Inpatient or hospital medicine experience; new graduates with very strong clinical backgrounds will be considered.

Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive assessments, formulate diagnoses, and develop treatment plans for acutely ill adult patients.
• Order and interpret diagnostic tests, prescribe medications within applicable authority, and initiate appropriate therapies.
• Document patient care clearly and efficiently in the electronic medical record.
• Communicate with physicians, nursing staff, patients, and families about patient status and treatment plans.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and educational activities.
• Follow hospital protocols, safety policies, and regulatory requirements.
• Manage time effectively and respond to emergencies calmly and competently.
• Perform critical care procedures and other procedures as privileged by the CCF Credentialing Board.
• Obtain medical histories, perform physical examinations where indicated, initiate appropriate diagnostic testing, and review clinical data to establish patient status, diagnoses, and treatment plans.
• Work with a collaborating physician and participate in medical team rounds with nursing, medical, and other healthcare team members.
• Perform and interpret routine laboratory, radiologic, cardiographic, and other diagnostic procedures, recognizing deviations from normal.
• Perform routine procedures such as injections, immunizations, suturing, and wound care; assist in managing illness and injury and in operations as applicable to privileges.
• Perform specialized procedures as directed by a physician and approved by the CCF Credentialing Board, including specified aspirations, biopsies, blood draws, IV starts, spinal taps, thoracentesis, and paracentesis.
• Provide patients with information about their disease, preventive health maintenance, treatments, and medication or treatment side effects and hazards.
• Refer patients to specialists and coordinate continuity of care with multidisciplinary teams and specialty areas.
• Conduct research follow-up studies, assist with data analysis, and participate in periodic quality monitoring through review of records, treatment plans, and outcomes.
• Support appropriate length of stay, discharge planning, and compliance with inpatient regulatory standards.
• May precept PA/APRN students and other health professionals and may serve as faculty for onboarding new employees.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
