About The Position

The Visitor Services and Membership Coordinator is a vital part of the LSU Rural Life Museum team, managing the primary point of contact for museum visitors and members. The incumbent hires, trains, and coordinates a staff of front-line employees; gathers and disseminates information on museum programs and activities (internally and externally); manages the museum store; and maintains the museum’s membership program. This position is responsible for tour scheduling and, in coordination with appropriate staff, assisting with volunteer communications and non-museum event coordination.

Requirements

  • Two years of experience in administrative services.
  • A valid driver's license
  • Will require an MVR
  • Subject to drug screens per PM-33/PS-67/FASOP HR-04.
  • Must undergo a credit check per FASOP HR-04.
  • Must have valid U.S. work authorization at the time of hire and maintain that valid work authorization throughout employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Every 15 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as six months of experience.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as the museum's visitor services manager, ensuring excellent customer service for museum guests.
  • Schedules and manages visitor services staff (students and part-time).
  • Oversees the scheduling of tours and K-12 programs and photo appointments, ensuring that all are entered into Tripleseat software and tours are confirmed the day prior to arrival.
  • Provides preliminary rental information to prospective clients.
  • Trains front desk staff in customer service, telephone and message taking etiquette, and cash register operations.
  • Manages museum’s gift shop in coordination with the Business Manager and program development team.
  • Contacts vendors, orders merchandise, creates displays, and conducts inventory.
  • Maintains reports and inventory to keep track of both consignment and wholesale merchandise in the gift shop.
  • Settles all invoices for resale merchandise on state credit card or submits check to be issued through LSU.
  • Ensures that the museum store remains neat and stocked with merchandise and supplies.
  • Assists the Docent Coordinator in determining docent needs and confirming/filling docent shifts.
  • Maintains museum’s membership database and membership program.
  • Maintains the museum's website, social media accounts, and paid marketing efforts with support from the appropriate staff and student workers.
  • Assists with Museum projects and public events.
  • Serves as manager-on-duty.
  • Other duties as assigned.
