About The Position

Reporting directly to a Correctional Housing Unit Manager at a multi-custody female correctional facility, this position is characterized by performing a variety of administrative, clerical, and office support duties. The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. We have a mission that matters!

Requirements

  • High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma AND one year of administrative experience ; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Meet Criminal Justice Standards requirements (12 NCAC 09G .0302)
  • Pass a criminal background check
  • Produce a negative drug screening result
  • Successfully complete medical and psychological evaluations
  • Possess a valid driver’s license

Nice To Haves

  • Documented working knowledge of word processing or spreadsheet programs.

Responsibilities

  • Requiring knowledge of the work unit Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and the Department of Adult Correction (DAC) Policies and Procedures.
  • Requiring a high level of confidentiality and working independently as well as in a team.
  • Requiring a high degree of understanding of general office practices and procedures along with the ability to relate well with other staff, agencies and the general public.
  • Being responsible for correspondence, record management, filing and database management.
  • Processing incoming and outgoing mail.
  • Maintaining a calendar of periodic reports, activities and meetings.
  • Contacting facility staff for meetings and dispersing information to appropriate personnel.
  • Meeting deadlines of projects.
  • Composing emails, copying, and filing documents.
  • Creating and maintaining Excel spreadsheets and preparing documents and reports.
  • Compiling records and organizing and maintaining files.
  • Performing all other special projects and duties as needed and as assigned by supervisor.
