About The Position

Reporting to a Maintenance/Construction Supervisor IV, this position is located in the Maintenance Department at a multi-custody female correctional facility. Job responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following: 1. Installing, providing maintenance, and repairing air-conditioning and refrigeration units associated with air handling and chilled water distribution. 2. Controlling systems at a State institution through training and supervising a staff of HVAC Mechanics engaged in the same type of work. 3. Designing smaller air-conditioning systems. 4. Designing modifications to larger, existing systems, reviewing and critiquing plans and providing specifications for contracted work. 5. Reviewing the work of outside contractors. 6. Performing work independently under the supervision of a plant engineer and being evaluated through effective and efficient equipment operation.

Requirements

  • High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma AND up to three years of journey level experience in the installation, maintenance or repair of air conditioning chillers, air handling, chilled water distribution and control systems including one year at the journey level ; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Requires current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by Title 40, Code of Federal Regulations part 82, subpart F.
  • Meet Criminal Justice Standards requirements (12 NCAC 09G .0302)
  • Pass a criminal background check
  • Produce a negative drug screening result
  • Successfully complete medical and psychological evaluations
  • Possess a valid driver’s license

Nice To Haves

  • Documented experience in HVAC (Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning) System.
