About The Position

Strayer University is seeking a dynamic Adjunct Faculty member to join their academics team. This role involves teaching undergraduate/graduate level Accounting classes in a hybrid format, combining in-person and asynchronous online instruction. The faculty member will act as a coach and mentor, aiming to foster a lifelong love of learning and accommodate diverse learning styles. A strong faculty-student relationship and community building in the classroom are emphasized. The position requires teaching from a pre-designed curriculum, enhancing it with technology, arriving on campus early for in-person sessions, utilizing the online learning platform, and being available to students via various communication channels for feedback and support. Adherence to university policies, attendance at faculty meetings, and participation in workshops or training are also expected.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated knowledge of academic technology.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) software and overall computer skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of academic evaluation.
  • Proficiency in oral presentation skills, planning, and organizing of course objectives.
  • Must have strong computer skills (Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Effective time management skills.
  • Must be able to travel weekly to required location(s).
  • Must be able to lift 25 lbs.
  • Mobility within the office including movement from floor to floor.
  • Travel via plane, car, and metro may be required to perform this job.
  • Must be able to work more than 40 hours per week when business needs warrant.
  • Access information using a computer.
  • Effectively communicate, both up and down the management chain.
  • Effectively cope with stressful situations.
  • Strong mental acuity.
  • Regular, dependable attendance and punctuality are essential functions of this job.

Nice To Haves

  • Teaching experience at the college level and online teaching experience are strongly preferred.
  • 5 years professional experience in accounting preferred.
  • CPA license preferred (active or inactive).

Responsibilities

  • Teach courses as assigned from a pre-designed curriculum and utilize your professional expertise to provide high-quality instruction.
  • Enhance the strength and effectiveness of the curriculum using technology and videos.
  • Arrive on-campus at least half an hour prior to the start time of in-person sessions per week during the academic quarter.
  • Utilize the online learning platform to enrich the student learning experience for the online component of the course.
  • Be available to students via email, phone, text, and office hours to ensure students receive quality feedback in a timely manner to support their academic success.
  • Establish high standards and ensure students understand how they will be evaluated.
  • Adhere to University policies and procedures.
  • Attend faculty meetings and workshops or training as required.
