About The Position

The Medical Billing Specialist will be responsible for Insurance Claims/Processing as well as Patient/Insurance Payment processing. Additional duties may include charge entry and payment posting. This person will work out of our High Point BMC office.

Requirements

Associate degree preferred.
3+ years of professional experience in Medical Billing, preferably in an outpatient clinical setting.
Working knowledge of Allscripts PM and EMR.
Effective communication skills; verbal and written.
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with a diverse client population.
Professional aptitude, presentation, and demeanor.
Competency with Microsoft Office suite (Word and Excel).

Nice To Haves

Ability to read and interpret insurance documents, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, etc.
Ability to draft routine reports and correspondence.
Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions, and percentages.

Responsibilities

Review and manage outstanding insurance claims to ensure timely and accurate reimbursement.
Communicate with insurance carriers by phone or in writing to resolve denials, rejections, and payment delays.
Document all follow‑up actions, payer responses, and claim status updates thoroughly within the billing system.
Respond to patient inquiries regarding insurance coverage, claim status, and account balances in a professional and courteous manner.
Provide clear, accurate explanations to support patient understanding and maintain a positive experience.
Review and post non‑payment explanations of benefits (EOBs) accurately and promptly.
Identify patterns or trends in denials and escalate recurring issues to the Billing Team Lead.
Submit corrected claims, medical records, and appeals as needed to secure appropriate reimbursement.
Work assigned sections of the insurance aging report on a weekly basis to maintain timely follow‑up.
Prioritize accounts effectively to ensure receivables remain current and accurately reflected.
