About The Position

The University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) is seeking an Extra Help Accountant I for its Planning, Sustainability & Project Management (PSPM) department. This temporary position, limited to 900 hours, will report to the Assistant Director for Business Services. The Accountant I will maintain efficient business processes and departmental accounting records for construction and remodeling projects, prepare financial statements, and analyze and monitor business operations, revenues, and methods utilized by PSPM throughout the capital delivery process. Requirements

  • Three (3) years (36 months) of work experience and/or training in Accounting or a closely related field, OR college coursework and/or training in Accounting or a closely related field (including 12 semester hours in accounting).
  • 30 semester hours equals one (1) year (12 months)
  • Associate’s Degree (60 semester hours) equals eighteen months (18 months)
  • 90 semester hours equals two (2) years (24 months)
  • Bachelor’s Degree (120 semester hours) equals three (3) years (36 months)

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of project life cycle financials, as applied to project management, including budgeting, cost tracking, expense reconciliation, and financial reporting across the project lifecycle.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office products, computer operating systems and spreadsheet programs.
  • Familiarity with iBuy and Banner (and its administrative forms).
  • Strong analytical/problem-solving skills and excellent oral & written communication skills.
  • Master's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field.
  • Accounting and financial analysis experience, preferably in a large, complex University or not-for-profit setting.
  • Previous experience and/or demonstrated capability to work effectively in a cooperative team environment that requires frequent contact with various internal and external constituencies.
  • Knowledge of UIC Business Policies and Procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze, reconcile, and maintain accounting records for capital and non-capital projects to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with university policies and accounting standards.
  • Review project expenditures, obligations, contracts, change orders, purchase orders, and related financial transactions to ensure proper accounting treatment and funding compliance.
  • Prepare and reconcile project accounting records, fund balances, and supporting schedules for state, federal, gift, grant, auxiliary, and other funding sources.
  • Prepare financial statements, account reconciliations, expenditure analyses, and project closeout reports for capital improvement and facilities-related projects.
  • Monitor project budgets and financial activity; identify variances, resolve discrepancies, and provide fiscal analysis and recommendations to support sound financial management.
  • Support year-end closing activities, financial reporting requirements, audits, and internal reviews by preparing reconciliations and supporting documentation.
  • Utilize University financial systems (including Banner, FCPWeb, FMWeb, PRZM, iBuy, Emburse Enterprise, MyUIFinancials, FABWeb, EDDIE, and Document Direct) to record, reconcile, analyze, and report financial data related to project accounting and fiscal administration.
  • Perform other related accounting, financial reporting, and fiscal analysis duties as assigned.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
