About The Position

UA Little Rock is seeking to hire an Extra Help/Lab Assistant who will perform experiments relating to microbiology and Genomics. The successful applicant will be responsible for routine laboratory work as well as microbiological techniques, including bacterial growth and genetics, DNA extraction, PCR, and agarose gel electrophoresis. Students are expected to have an adequate background in foundational Biology knowledge, hands-on laboratory skills, and basic spreadsheet knowledge. The position can be extended to future semesters. This position is governed by state and federal laws, and agency/institution policy.

Requirements

• High School Diploma
• Minimum of three semesters of College Biology, including in-person laboratory coursework in Microbiology and General Chemistry
• Basic knowledge of the equipment used in a microbiology laboratory
• Knowledge of aseptic technique
• MS Office suite/Google suite
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Follow instructions well and assiduously
• Ability to use critical thinking and problem-solving skills
• Accept constructive feedback and implement it effectively
• Proof of legal authority to work in the United States on the first day of employment

Nice To Haves

• Overall GPA 3.0 or higher
• In-person laboratory coursework in Genetics or Molecular Biology
• Basic spreadsheet knowledge
