About The Position

SJR is a specialist content consulting and communications agency focused on journalistic storytelling. We are boutique in size, but backed by WPP, one of the world's largest agency networks. That means you get the benefits of a tight-knit, nimble agency where your work genuinely matters, along with the career development, learning, and global reach of a major network working with the world’s biggest brands. Smart, well-executed content is how we help brands stand out, connect with their audiences, and solve real business challenges. As our Toronto team grows, we need an Account Manager with a specialized focus on content marketing to help lead this day-to-day work and build strong, trusting partnerships with our clients. You’ll sit at the intersection of client service, strategic thinking, and creative delivery, partnering closely with our creative and editorial teams to ensure our work pushes boundaries while perfectly answering the brief. This role is designed for a professional on their way to becoming a strategic client consultant—someone who goes beyond standard project management to truly understand our clients’ businesses, anticipate their needs, and proactively recommend content strategies that drive results. We're looking for a talented all-rounder: part meticulous project manager, part strategic consultant, and part content enthusiast. Someone with 3-5 years of account management experience who is ready to hit the ground running, but also eager for a role that offers significant opportunities to learn, grow, and shape best-in-class brand storytelling.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years of account management experience, with a significant focus on content marketing strategy and digital program execution (agency setting highly preferred).
  • Demonstrated expertise in developing and executing content strategies across various formats (long-form, web, social, eCRM, lead gen).
  • Track record of effectively managing multiple clients, campaigns, and internal resources simultaneously, delivering projects on time and within scope.
  • Experience using collaborative team communication and project management applications (e.g., Monday.com and Teams).
  • Consultative Mindset: A strong desire to understand the "why" behind client requests and the ability to recommend strategic solutions, not just take orders.
  • Outstanding Communication: Exceptional verbal and written skills, with the ability to accurately document proceedings, write clear briefs, and drive proactive client-focused conversations.
  • Digital Fluency: Strong understanding of the digital content landscape, including current trends, SEO, UX, eCRM, lead generation tactics, and performance metrics.
  • Meticulous Organization: Excellent organizational skills and keen attention to detail ensuring flawless execution.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and familiarity with data analysis and insight tools such as Google Analytics, Meltwater, SimilarWeb, SEMrush, or similar platforms.
  • Ambitious & Curious: A strong willingness to learn, a curious mindset regarding the digital ecosystem, and a commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Adaptable: Flexible, adaptable, and responsive when quick turnarounds are required.
  • Collaborative: An open mindset with the ability to work effectively across interdisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

  • Lead day-to-day client communication and program administration, acting as the client’s primary point of contact.
  • Manage and communicate project timelines, deliverables, and budgets in a fast-paced environment.
  • Translate client-approved ideas and objectives into clear, concise, and inspiring briefs for editorial, technical, and creative teams.
  • Drive the meticulous execution of content programs, ensuring rapid deployment, optimization, and flawless attention to detail across all deliverables.
  • Demonstrate strong problem-solving skills when dealing with client requests, roadblocks, and shifting priorities.
  • Support the client lead with financial and administrative tasks, including invoicing, drafting service agreements, scopes of work, and setting up vendors.
  • Act as a content marketing consultant, keeping abreast of the client’s business, industry, target audience, competitive environment, and the latest digital trends.
  • Drive client success by recommending and shaping strategic content that spans SEO-driven long-form articles, engaging website experiences, effective social media, eCRM strategies, and lead-generation campaigns.
  • Participate heavily in content strategy development, helping to craft and present compelling strategic decks and presentations to clients.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (creative, editorial, media, technical) to ensure the strategic intent of a campaign is carried all the way through to execution.
  • Use your understanding of the digital content landscape and performance metrics to advise clients on how to optimize and elevate their current programs.
  • Proactively identify potential organic growth opportunities within your existing accounts that align with the strategic direction of the agency.
  • Support SJR’s business development efforts by contributing insights and assisting with pitch development and presentations.
