The University of Virginia’s Facilities Management team is hiring an Access Control Technician or Senior Access Control Technician. The successful candidate will be placed at the level that best fits their experience, education, skills, and abilities. The multi-discipline team installs electronic access control devices, hardware, and controls, and performs preventive and corrective maintenance on electronic and mechanical locking systems in academic buildings, student and faculty housing, and medical center environments. The role combines electronics and door hardware work, including card readers, sensors, control boards, door closers, automatic operators, and locksmithing. Technicians use access control software and mobile applications to program systems, troubleshoot issues, provide status updates, and generate reports. They work with Maintenance Zone departments across Grounds, respond to service calls, and may be asked to respond to after-hours emergencies. Senior Access Control Technicians also assist other departments with security and fire safety system interconnections, oversee small projects and installations, prepare estimates, and maintain spare-stock inventory and supplies. This is a full-time position with UVA benefits. Hiring rates depend on relevant experience and skills. The position remains open until filled.
