About The Position

ESM Prep is seeking energetic, engaging, and kind Academic Mentors in the Bay Area to provide high-quality, one-on-one academic tutoring and test preparation while supporting students holistically. Mentors help students prepare for college by working on SAT/ACT and AP exams and guiding them through their high school academic journey. The role focuses on Humanities subjects including AP English, AP Literature, and AP US History; AP World History and SAT/ACT are additional areas of interest. Tutors work with students in the South Bay and Peninsula, including in-person sessions in students’ homes, with some opportunity for remote work. The position is part-time, and tutoring commonly takes place on weekday evenings after 3 p.m. and/or weekends, typically Sunday through Thursday. Mentors must be available for a full school year or longer.

Requirements

• Previous experience tutoring, teaching, and/or coaching.
• Prior experience tutoring or teaching high-level Humanities subjects such as AP English, AP Literature, and AP US History.
• Bachelor’s degree.
• Able to tutor in person 2 to 3 days a week, mostly in the South Bay/Peninsula area, including Atherton.
• Available for in-person tutoring in students’ homes.
• Available part-time, typically on weekday evenings after 3 p.m. and/or weekends; the typical work schedule is Sunday through Thursday.
• Available to tutor for a full school year or longer.
• Reliable internet access.
• Reliable transportation.

Nice To Haves

• Prior experience teaching or tutoring ACT/SAT, or willingness to complete advanced test-prep training.
• Expertise in additional high school subjects such as calculus, physics, history, English, Spanish, computer science, or economics, or in SSAT and/or ISEE.

Responsibilities

• Provide one-on-one academic tutoring in high-level Humanities subjects, including AP English, AP Literature, and AP US History.
• Prepare students for SAT/ACT and AP exams and mentor them through their high school academic journey.
• Tutor students in person in their homes in the South Bay/Peninsula area and, when appropriate, remotely.
• Support students holistically and contribute to their academic and personal development.
• Complete training and administrative functions as needed.
