About The Position

The Academic Advising Coordinator (AAC) supports the academic progression of Mines students through holistic, developmental academic advising as part of the Center for Academic Success and Advising (CASA). The role administers academic support services and retention efforts in collaboration with academic faculty and administration, upholds national standards for academic advising and academic support, and contributes to CASA’s mission and effectiveness. AACs collaborate with colleagues and may backfill, support, or cross-train on advising and student support efforts. This is a full-time, 12-month administrative faculty exempt position based in Golden, Colorado. The position works in person on the Mines campus most days of the week. CASA is undertaking a collaborative structural redesign with a stronger focus on academic support, retention, degree progression, and advanced student advising. The coordinator may contribute to this evolution; time allocations and office deliverables may shift, while key responsibilities and skills remain. The coordinator advises undergraduate students in their first year or in later years of major coursework, supports their transition into declared majors, and provides individualized academic planning and coaching. The role also manages an academic support service function, oversees its budget, and supervises student staff. Coordinators may represent the university on committees and to students, families, prospective students, and the broader community, while maintaining FERPA compliance when communicating with families.
