About The Position

A 1:1 School Nurse is needed in Hillside, Illinois, to provide individual nursing support to a student with significant medical and developmental needs. The role is based at a local school through an agency and follows the academic district calendar. The nurse works directly with the student’s family to provide personal medical care, including care during transportation and administration of school medications, and collaborates with school personnel to support the student’s health and promote a healthy school environment.

Requirements

• Current Illinois RN license.
• Current First Aid or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR/BLS) certification.
• Prior professional nursing experience; school and/or pediatric nursing experience is preferred.
• Ability to stand or sit for extended periods; see and read computer screens and printed materials with or without vision aids; hear and understand speech at normal levels and on the telephone; speak audibly and clearly in person and on the telephone; and understand and follow oral and written instructions.
• May require frequent walking, standing, stooping, lifting up to approximately 25 pounds, and occasional lifting of equipment and/or materials weighing up to approximately 40 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Provide one-on-one nursing support to a student with significant medical and developmental needs.
• Work directly with the student’s family to administer personal medical care, including during transportation, and administer school medications.
• Conduct health assessments and screenings, identify health concerns, and provide appropriate interventions.
• Develop and implement individualized healthcare plans.
• Administer medications and treatments according to physician orders and school policies.
• Respond to medical emergencies and provide first aid as necessary.
• Maintain accurate and confidential health records for students.
• Educate students, staff, and families on health-related topics, including illness prevention, nutrition, and hygiene.
• Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and support staff to address health concerns and promote a healthy school environment.
• Stay current on nursing practices, regulations, and guidelines related to school health services.
