About The Position
The Truck Spotter works closely with management to organize and safely move fleet trailers within the yard. The role places and organizes trailers, checks fuel levels, tracks inventory, verifies loadout orders, and completes daily reports. The employee communicates and interacts professionally with other departments. The position operates a yard truck to move trailers to and from docks and moves tankers in and out of the receiving bay. Duties also include monitoring and adjusting refrigerated trailer temperatures according to load requirements; maintaining and fueling yard tractors and trailers; completing daily check-off lists and reporting needed repairs to the Shipping Manager; removing trash and washing out trailers daily; and reporting accidents immediately. The employee monitors a company-issued radio and returns it to its charger at the end of each day. Other duties may be assigned. This is a second-shift role, scheduled from 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. The employee must be able to work overtime, weekends, and holidays. The work may involve cooler-room temperatures, contact with water or dairy liquids, wet or slippery conditions, and noise levels that may reach 90 decibels. Physical duties include standing, walking, climbing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, regularly operating a truck, and lifting up to 50 pounds (with 25 pounds lifted frequently).
Requirements
- High school diploma, GED, or international equivalent.
- Knowledge of performing pre-trip and post-trip inspections.
- Valid driver's license.
- Ability to work overtime, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to perform the stated physical demands, including regularly operating a truck and lifting up to 50 pounds (25 pounds frequently).
Responsibilities
- Safely organize and execute the movement of fleet trailers within the yard.
- Place trailers and maintain organization of the yard.
- Operate a yard truck to move trailers to and from docks.
- Move tankers in and out of the receiving bay.
- Check fuel levels, track inventory, and verify loadout orders.
- Monitor and adjust refrigerated trailer temperature settings according to specific load requirements.
- Maintain and fuel yard tractors and trailers.
- Complete daily check-off lists and report needed yard tractor repairs to the Shipping Manager.
- Remove trash from and wash out trailers daily.
- Report all accidents immediately to a supervisor.
- Monitor the company-issued radio and return it to the battery charger at the end of each day.
- Complete daily reports and communicate professionally with other departments.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
