About The Position

A Tool & Die Maker is a highly skilled artisan in the manufacturing industry who creates precision tools, dies, jigs, fixtures, and molds used in metal stamping, forging, and molding operations.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma is standard, typically paired with a formal apprenticeship or technical degree (journeyman status)
  • 3–5 years of hands-on experience in tool and die making or a similar role.
  • Advanced knowledge of metalworking, machine tool operation, and CAD/CAM software.
  • Strong skills in algebra, geometry, and trigonometry.
  • High level of accuracy and precision, focusing on fine detail to prevent defects.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex mechanical issues on the production floor.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects (up to 50–75 lbs) and stand for long periods.
  • Must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Amrize approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators.
  • Employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret engineering blueprints to craft, assemble, and repair specialized equipment, often to tolerances measured in ten-thousandths of an inch.
  • Analyze blueprints, CAD drawings, and specifications to plan production processes.
  • Set up and operate manual and Computer Numerically Controlled (CNC) machines, including lathes, mills, grinders, and drill presses.
  • Cut, shape, file, and assemble metal parts to create or repair dies, jigs, and fixtures.
  • Conduct trial runs to ensure tools meet quality standards, adjusting and polishing parts to ensure proper alignment and function.
  • Perform routine maintenance and repair on existing tools, dies, and molds to minimize production downtime.
  • Use precision measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, gauges) to verify dimensions.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to health, safety and environmental policies in all work environments and areas.
  • Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviors.
