The Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) works to build on strengths of families and communities to keep children and vulnerable adults safe, so they thrive. This is achieved through investigations, services, and referrals. Child Protective Investigations (CPI) Investigators are responsible for investigating claims of child abuse and neglect, determining what occurred, and predicting future risks. CPI operates 24 hours a day, every day of the year, to receive and investigate reports. An investigation involves interviewing and gathering information to ascertain if abuse or neglect happened and if intervention is necessary. Investigators assess both risk and safety issues and may recommend services to reduce the risk of further harm. DFPS is dedicated to its employees' professional development, offering a Certification Program to enhance skills and advance careers within the organization. This program provides opportunities for additional compensation through a supportive learning environment. This position can be filled at various levels, from Child Protective Investigations Specialist I to IV, with education and experience influencing the starting salary. Selected applicants are eligible for a monthly increase of $416.66 after 120 days of tenure in an investigative position. The role is primarily mobile, utilizing technology like tablets to conduct work away from the office, requiring independent work while remaining responsive to supervision and the assigned unit.
