About The Position

The Substitute Coordinator helps fulfill the mission of Hill Country Christian School of Austin by coordinating substitutes during teacher absences. This role reports to the PreK and Elementary School Principal and is a part-time, non-exempt position working approximately 20 hours per week. The ideal candidate will be a Christ-follower who upholds the school's Core Values and Statement of Faith, and faithfully attends a church that aligns with the school's beliefs. This role requires strong organizational, communication, and computer skills, with the ability to pay close attention to detail, solve problems effectively, and utilize various computer applications.

Requirements

  • Must be a Christ-follower who upholds, in word and deed, the Hill Country Christian School of Austin’s Core Values and Statement of Faith.
  • Must faithfully attend a church whose fundamental beliefs are in agreement with the Statement of Faith of this school.
  • 3-5 years of experience similar or related experience.
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Must have prior teaching/classroom experience or any experience supervising children.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and computer skills are required.
  • Must have ability to pay close attention to detail, communicate effectively orally and in writing, solve problems effectively and efficiently in a service-oriented manner, and demonstrate skill in using computer spreadsheets, online programs, email, text messages, and other applications as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Interview and hire substitutes with discernment.
  • Train new substitute teachers on school policies and procedures.
  • Supervise 40-50 substitute teachers.
  • Exercise independent judgment to problem solve, address performance issues and mediate conflict in some situations and utilize strong interpersonal skills to develop strong relationships.
  • Match best fit roles and ensure subs feel valued as part of Hill Country community.
  • Verify all teacher absences, planned and emergency, through the absence management system.
  • Verify all teacher absence requests are covered by a substitute teacher.
  • Communicate school policies and procedures to substitutes and teachers, as appropriate, in a timely manner.
  • Verify substitute work hours and employee leave, preparing reports for payroll.
  • Be a super user of the absence management system, assisting with overrides and tech support.
  • Continually evaluate and improve processes to better serve teachers and substitutes.
  • Interact in a Christ-like manner at all times. Utilize the interpersonal relationship method of “Matthew 18” as commanded by Jesus Christ.
  • Handle “off” hour requests (including early mornings, evenings and weekends) for scheduling substitutes.
  • Perform PK-12 substitute teaching for partial days and last-minute absences.
  • Create, maintain and adhere to procedures in the Substitute Handbook and the Substitute Management Procedures.
  • Be knowledgeable of HR policies in the Employee Handbook and ensure absences adhere.
  • Collaborate with teachers on binders, lesson plans, coverage requests and substitute feedback.
  • Learn technology applications necessary for this position.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
