About The Position

Requirements

• Possesses a valid license for High Pressure Boiler Operating Engineer issued by the New York City Department of Buildings.
• One year of full-time experience as a stationary engineer in charge of a high pressure plant supervising at least three stationary engineers in the operation, maintenance and adjustment of high pressure boilers (for external candidates).
• Must pass a drug screening.
• Must be able to understand and be understood in English.
• Must be able to prove identity and right to work in the United States.
• Must have a Motor Vehicle Driver License valid in the State of New York with no disqualifying restrictions.

Nice To Haves

• Currently employed in the eligible title of Stationary Engineer (for promotional candidates).
• Pass the next Civil Service Exam and be hired from the resulting list for this title to obtain permanent civil service status.

Responsibilities

• Operation, maintenance, and repair of all utilities in large public buildings and of steam power plants, chillers, swimming pools and skating rinks.
• Operation, maintenance, and repair of plant equipment such as boilers, furnaces, pumps, fans, engines, turbines, generators, electrical equipment, heating and ventilating equipment, and air conditioning and refrigeration systems.
• Operation or supervision of control consoles in control rooms.
• Operation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing equipment in swimming pools and skating rinks.
• Supervising assigned personnel.
• Preparing work schedules and directing the assignment of personnel.
• Directing and evaluating studies of operating procedures.
• Determining and directing work procedures.
• Keeping records and writing reports.
• Operating a motor vehicle in the performance of assigned duties.
• Planning, allocating, and maintaining inventory and supplies for preventative and emergency maintenance needs.
• Preparing equipment and material requisitions, including specifications and vendor bids required for operation, maintenance and repair.
• Preparing scope of work for vendor contracts.
