About The Position

We invite applications for an Assistant Scientist to join an interdisciplinary research group focused on health economics, outcomes research, and value-based care in total joint arthroplasty (TJA). The Assistant Scientist will play a key role in the development and execution of an academic research program in Value-Based Health Care / Health Economics and Outcomes Research working closely with clinician-scientists, statisticians, and external collaborators. This position is intended for a doctoral-level researcher who will function as an independent and collaborative investigator, contributing methodologic expertise, scholarly productivity, and leadership in applied health economics and health services research. The Assistant Scientist will be embedded in a collaborative academic research environment with access to rich data resources, close clinical partnerships, and institutional support for scholarly productivity. The position offers opportunities for continued professional development, sustained publication output, and increasing leadership responsibility within the research program. In addition to an academic appointment at the Hospital for Special Surgery, the successful candidate will be proposed for an appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor at Weill-Cornell Medicine.

Requirements

  • PhD in Health Economics, Biostatistics, Health Services Research, or a closely related field
  • Demonstrated expertise in applied statistical and/or econometric methods and proficiency in R, SAS, or Stata
  • Record of peer-reviewed publications consistent with an early independent research career
  • Prior experience in health economics, outcomes research, or comparative effectiveness research
  • Strong written and oral communication skills suitable for academic dissemination and multidisciplinary collaboration
  • Ability to work independently while contributing productively to a team-based research environment
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple concurrent research projects

Nice To Haves

  • experience in musculoskeletal care or orthopaedics is preferred but not required

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the establishment, growth, and scientific direction of a research program focused on economic and patient-centered outcomes in total joint arthroplasty
  • Design and conduct independent and collaborative research studies, including cost-effectiveness, cost-utility, and patient-reported outcomes analyses
  • Apply advanced statistical and econometric methods to large clinical, registry, and administrative datasets
  • Translate research findings into peer-reviewed manuscripts suitable for high-impact medical, health economics, and health services journals
  • Serve as a key contributor to the preparation of grant proposals submitted to federal agencies, foundations, and industry partners
  • Present research findings at national and international scientific meetings
  • Provide methodological mentorship and research supervision to trainees, fellows, and junior staff, as appropriate
  • Collaborate effectively with clinicians and multidisciplinary stakeholders to ensure clinical relevance and translational impact of research
