The Respiratory Therapist delivers care to patients of all ages who suffer from either an acute or chronic respiratory illness or cardiopulmonary disorder. This role involves organizing patient care, collaborating with an interdisciplinary team, and effectively identifying and solving problems related to equipment, patient care, or respiratory safety. The therapist will accurately document care, utilize technology and computers, and perform assessments, patient care plans, and patient/family education. They will apply scientific principles to manage cardiopulmonary systems, make recommendations for operational improvements, and assist with medical procedures as part of a healthcare team. The role also includes active participation in the department's Performance Improvement plan and appropriate utilization of department-specific equipment. Additionally, the therapist must understand and respond to cultural variables in professional and patient interactions and evaluate ethical challenges impacting patient care.
