About The Position

The Check-Out Receptionist in a neurology practice is responsible for managing the final stages of a patient’s visit, ensuring smooth transitions to follow-up care, and maintaining accurate administrative records. As a patient-focused professional, you will perform various services and related activities in support of patient care. You will demonstrate the ability to use good judgment and communicate effectively with all patients, families, licensed personnel, insurance companies, and third-party payers. The check-in process sets the tone for a patient’s visit (as does check-out) and overall satisfaction and operational efficiency.

  • Strong customer service and communication skills
  • Empathetic, respectful, and professional demeanor
  • Computer literate
  • Ability to multitask and manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously
  • Attention to detail

Nice To Haves

  • 1 year of medical office experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Greet patients promptly and assist with any questions or concerns
  • Arrange next appointments, diagnostic tests, or referrals as needed, ensuring compliance with insurance requirements
  • Initiate and coordinate diagnostic imaging or other tests, obtain authorizations, and inform patients of financial responsibilities
  • Handle outgoing referrals and prior authorizations
  • Export clinical summaries and fax dictations referring physicians
  • Provide instructions for follow-up, and maintain a positive, professional environment
  • Work closely with all employees to ensure seamless patient flow
  • Give instructions to the patient as instructed by the provider (scheduling/messages), schedule appointments, and answer patient questions
  • Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following and enforcing standards and procedures, and complying with HIPAA laws and regulations
  • Maintain organized stations (reception and management team must be able to find all documents/related work materials necessary in your absence)
  • Serve as a team player and perform other essential duties or pending tasks when needed in a positive and professional manner
  • Treat all individuals (patients, coworkers, and other professionals) with respect; bullying will not be tolerated
  • Adhere to all privacy and confidentiality guidelines
  • Other duties as assigned
