About The Position

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Graduation from an accredited school or program of Radiological Sciences - Limited.
• Limited Medical Radiology Technician license in Virginia.
• AHA BLS-HCP certification.
• Effective interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills.
• Knowledge of medical terminology and electronic medical records.

Responsibilities

• Perform x-rays on patients for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes within the licensed scope of practice and as directed by a provider.
• Operate specialized equipment, including digital radiography (DR) and PACS.
• Ensure equipment is in good working order and complies with applicable laws and regulations; report concerns or malfunctions and submit appropriate work orders.
• Perform quality-control checks and audits on radiologic equipment.
• Maintain records and activity logs, including records of x-rays sent to other facilities.
• Keep the work area neat, clean, and well stocked.
• Prepare patients for imaging by verifying identity and orders, explaining procedures, and answering questions.
• Position patients and adjust equipment to obtain quality images of the ordered body area.
• Observe patients during exams for discomfort or distress and take appropriate action.
• Use the electronic medical record for patient orders and enter appropriate data.
• Respond to providers’ questions regarding exams.
• Maintain competency by pursuing continuing education and completing annual in-services and competencies.
• May perform venipuncture and cardiac monitoring for imaging.
• Follow radiation-protection processes and the ALARA principle.
• May travel occasionally to nearby centers for training or work coverage.
• Provide clinical and clerical support for clinic operations as directed and within training, education, and competency.
