About The Position

The Michigan Department of Corrections is seeking a Psychologist to provide a full range of psychological evaluations, tests, interventions, consultations, and referral services. This role involves training staff on psychology and mental illness, functioning as a member of a multi-disciplinary treatment team, and providing psychological services to prisoners, including those with severe mental disorders. The position also includes providing sex offender treatment and assessment services, working with community supervision/treatment for sex offenders, and assisting with hospitalized, medically ill, and other special populations. The psychologist is responsible for the mental health evaluation, referral, treatment, progress monitoring, and ensuring continuity of care for prisoners, as well as assisting with placement and services upon prisoner discharge to the community.

Requirements

  • Possession of a master's degree in psychology.
  • Possession of a temporary master's limited license, master's limited license, doctoral limited license, or full license to practice psychology in Michigan.

Nice To Haves

  • Psychologist 10: One year of professional experience providing psychological treatment equivalent to a Psychologist 9.
  • Psychologist P11: Two years of professional experience providing psychological treatment equivalent to a Psychologist, including one year equivalent to a Psychologist 10.

Responsibilities

  • Provide a full range of psychological evaluations, tests, interventions, consultations and referral services.
  • Train staff in matters of psychology and mental illness.
  • Function as a member of a multi-disciplinary treatment team providing a range of psychological services to prisoners.
  • Provide a full spectrum of sex offender treatment and assessment services.
  • Work with community supervision/treatment for sex offenders.
  • Work with hospitalized, medically ill and other special populations.
  • Be responsible for all aspects of the mental health evaluation, referral to the appropriate mental health level of care and treatment of the prisoners.
  • Monitor prisoner progress and ensure continuity of care is not jeopardized.
  • Assist with placement and obtaining services when the prisoner discharges to the community.
