About The Position

Requirements

• Must be a U.S. citizen and determined suitable for federal employment.
• Must participate in the direct deposit pay program and successfully complete E-Verify employment verification.
• Must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements when applying as a current federal employee.
• Must not have a disqualifying conviction for a crime of domestic violence and must submit DD Form 2760 regarding qualification to possess firearms.
• Candidates for law enforcement officer positions must not have reached their 37th birthday by the date of appointment, subject to applicable exceptions and waivers.
• Must successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination and meet OPM hearing and vision requirements, including distinguishing basic shades of color.
• Must obtain and maintain a valid U.S. driver's license.
• Must pass a pre-employment drug test, including marijuana testing, and is subject to random testing.
• Must obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance before entering on duty.
• Must be qualified and certified to carry a firearm and maintain firearm proficiency.
• Must pass required mental and emotional stability screenings, physical ability tests, and physical fitness-for-duty tests.
• Must obtain and maintain CPR certification and use a portable heart defibrillator where available.
• Must successfully complete the FLETC Uniformed Police Training Program and sign a 36-month continuing service agreement after required training.
• For GS-5, must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to GS-04 involving fixed-post law enforcement assignments, police reports, and emergency response consistent with state and federal law; alternatively, qualifying education or a combination of education and experience may be used.
• For GS-4, must demonstrate six months of general experience and six months of specialized experience in law enforcement operations, maintaining order, and protecting life and property; alternatively, qualifying education or a combination of education and experience may be used.
• GS-5 education alternative: four years of study leading to a bachelor's degree in Police Science or a comparable related program.
• GS-4 education alternative: two years of post-high-school study with at least 12 semester hours in police administration, police law and evidence, police investigation, criminology, law enforcement, general law, or similar subjects.
• Must be able to meet the position's physical demands, including lifting or carrying items over 50 pounds, pursuing and detaining suspects, and working in extreme weather while wearing protective equipment.
• Must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods.
• Must be registered for Selective Service if male and born after December 31, 1959.
• Must comply with applicable requirements for retired military members appointed within 180 days of retirement.
• Must be able to work rotating and uncommon tours, including nights, weekends, and holidays; overtime or night differential hours may be required.
• Must be able to operate vehicles and may be required to qualify on police bicycles, ATVs, snowmobiles, or other rough-terrain vehicles after additional training.
• Must meet any applicable HSB crewman qualifications if assigned to HSB Crewman operations.

Responsibilities

• Conduct inspections on foot or by vehicle to maintain the safety and security of persons and property.
• Write citations for observed violations of laws, rules, and regulations.
• Detain individuals who violate rules, regulations, or applicable laws on public or private property.
• Evaluate situations and use the minimum degree of force necessary to neutralize an incident.
• Maintain readiness to respond to law enforcement and security incidents, including emergency and terrorist threats.
• Maintain firearms proficiency and complete required sustainment training and annual agility testing.
• Obtain and maintain required CPR certification and use a portable heart defibrillator where available.
• Complete the mandated Emergency Vehicle Operators Course to operate qualifying vehicles in support of operations.
• Wear the assigned uniform and required equipment and comply with installation grooming policies.
• Travel or respond to other military installations or off-installation events when directed.
