About The Position

Requirements

• Fluency in reading, writing, and speaking English, except in Puerto Rico.
• Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evening and weekend hours.
• Earn and maintain PTCB certification through the designated training program and/or meet state-required certification or registration requirements; PTCB certification is required for promotion to senior technician where applicable.

Nice To Haves

• Six months of experience in a retail environment.
• Prior work experience with Walgreens.
• Good math skills for accurately counting, measuring, and weighing medications.
• Good computer skills.
• Knowledge of store inventory control.
• PTCB certification.

Responsibilities

• Assist the pharmacist under direct supervision and in accordance with state, federal, and company policies and procedures.
• Use pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions; ensure information is entered correctly.
• Retrieve, count, and pour pharmaceutical drugs, verify medication accuracy, and check for possible interactions.
• If PTCB certified, assist with and coach pharmacy technicians in pharmacy systems and cashiers in operating pharmacy cash registers.
• Engage customers and patients by greeting them, offering assistance, resolving issues, answering questions, and developing relationships with valuable customers.
• Model and share customer-service best practices, including proactive assistance, identifying customer needs, and providing service until customers are satisfied.
• Follow the Walgreen Co. Pharmacy Code of Conduct and Good Faith Dispensing policy.
• Assist with pharmacist scheduling and maintaining pharmacy workflow.
• Immediately report prescription errors to the pharmacist on duty and follow company error-reporting and Quality Improvement Program procedures.
• Register sales on the assigned cash register and collect and handle cash as required; assist customers in locating over-the-counter products when possible.
• Handle telephone calls that do not require the pharmacist's personal attention, including calls to physicians.
• Correct and resubmit manual third-party prescription claims promptly and efficiently, and perform assigned clerical duties.
• Support inventory management by ordering, unpacking, checking, and storing pharmaceutical shipments; follow asset-protection techniques and file claims for shipment overages, shortages, order errors, and damaged prescription drugs.
• May assist the pharmacist with clinical services, including collecting and properly labeling blood or urine samples, and help coordinate services with pharmacy staff, Walgreens healthcare clinics, and external providers.
• Help maintain relationships with the local medical community through provider detailing and outreach to healthcare groups, retirement homes, nursing homes, and other forums.
• Help keep the Pharmacy Department supplied, clean, neat, and orderly.
• Comply with company policies and procedures and maintain respectful relationships with coworkers.
• Complete special assignments and other tasks as assigned.
• Earn and maintain PTCB certification through the designated training program and/or meet state-required certification or registration requirements.
• Attend manager-requested training, obtain continuing education credits, and maintain knowledge and skills in healthcare and pharmacy, including current developments.
