The Compounding Specialist will be a resource to internal and external clients, for all compounding-related needs. The role will involve providing support to clients on technical and formulation inquiries, specific niche areas of practice, current standards of practice, and more, as well as providing direction to assist pharmacists with either introducing or expanding the practice of compounding in their business. This is an exciting opportunity to join us as we expand our Compounding Support team and we're looking for a self-motivated, detail orientated pharmacist or technician who is determined to provide exceptional advice and support to our ever-growing client base.

Requirements

  • Pharmacist - BS Pharmacy, PharmD or Pharmacy Technician
  • Pharmacist - Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in the pharmaceutical compounding industry (Preferable 1 year + experience in a Compounding Pharmacy lab);
  • Pharmacy Technician – At least ten (10) years of experience in the pharmaceutical compounding industry (Preferable experience in a Compounding Pharmacy lab)
  • Excellent communication skills; Fluent French and English (oral & written) required. This role will require English because it will be the only Pharmacist/Pharmacy Technician to support all customer inquiries regularly in North America.
  • Strong work ethic and judgment, empathy and discretion in their work

  • Advanced interpersonal skills and the ability to maintain a professional and positive image.
  • Results oriented and takes initiative with the ability to learn and adapt quickly.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of regulations and guidelines of the following is considered an asset: USP, NAPRA, FDA, Health Canada, state and provincial boards of pharmacy.
  • Experience in training and/or teaching to pharmacists and lab technicians is considered an asset
  • Knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Outlook, Teams, PowerPoint and Excel) required

Responsibilities

  • Review of non-sterile and sterile formulations, as per client requests.
  • Evaluate the client request to ensure safety, therapeutic efficacy, justification, appropriateness of the requested route of administration, active ingredient concentration, dosage and relevance to the clinical diagnosis as provided by the compounder.
  • Verify that formulas are based on concrete scientific evidence thorough primary literature search.
  • Verify physiochemical compatibility, suitability and stability of APIs and excipients in formulation.
  • Verify mathematical calculations, detailed preparatory steps, ingredient sensitivities, auxiliary labels, legal parameters and more.
  • Receive, interpret and respond to client compounding inquiries; through email or telephone communication.
  • Provide technical expertise on troubleshooting day-to day-compounding issues.
  • Provide support in terms of mathematical calculations, base selection, ingredient incompatibilities and suitability, formulation chemistry, API-specific monographs, and more.
  • Understand and consult on recommended and proprietary technologies, devices, equipment and ready bases for pharmacy compounding.
  • Provide consultation support regarding specific niche areas of practice, current standards of practice, regulatory inquiries, facility workflow and more.
  • Address escalated client inquiries, problems or situations.
  • Perform scientific literature searches to support internal/external requests and compile researched literature into a standardized template for distribution to clients.
  • Stay up to date on the standards of practice and regulations governing the practice of pharmaceutical compounding; on State/Provincial and Federal levels.
  • Assist in the development of SOPs, Policies & Procedures related to formulation development and approval.
  • Assist in the development of SOPs, Policies & Procedures related to the practice of pharmaceutical compounding.
  • Participate in continuous quality improvement of formulation database.
