Requirements

• Fluency in reading, writing, and speaking English, except in Puerto Rico.
• Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evening and weekend hours.

Nice To Haves

• Six months of experience in a retail environment.
• Prior work experience with Walgreens.
• Good math skills for accurately counting, measuring, and weighing medications.
• Good computer skills.
• Knowledge of store inventory control.
• PTCB certification.

Responsibilities

• Assist the pharmacist, under direct supervision, in pharmacy practice and other Pharmacy Department duties in accordance with state and federal regulations and Company policies.
• Use pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions; enter information accurately, retrieve, count, and pour medications, verify medicines, and check for possible interactions.
• If PTCB certified, assist with and coach pharmacy technicians in using pharmacy systems and cashiers in operating pharmacy cash registers.
• Greet customers and patients, offer assistance with products and services, resolve issues, answer questions, and provide a positive customer experience.
• Model customer service best practices and develop strong relationships with valuable customers.
• Follow the Walgreen Co. Pharmacy Code of Conduct and Good Faith Dispensing policy.
• Assist with pharmacy scheduling and workflow, as assigned by the Pharmacy Manager, Staff Pharmacist, or Store Manager.
• Immediately report prescription errors to the pharmacist on duty and follow Company policies and procedures related to pharmacy errors and the Quality Improvement Program.
• Register related sales on the assigned cash register and collect and handle cash as required; assist customers in locating over-the-counter products when possible.
• Handle telephone calls that do not require the pharmacist’s personal attention, including calls to physicians.
• Correct and resubmit manual third-party prescription claims in a timely and efficient manner and perform assigned clerical duties.
• Support inventory activities, including ordering, unpacking, checking, and storing pharmaceutical shipments; file claims for overages, shortages, order errors, and damaged prescription-drug goods.
• Maintain knowledge of Company asset-protection techniques.
• As needed, assist the pharmacist in clinical services, including collecting and properly labeling blood or urine samples, and coordinate clinical services with pharmacy staff, Walgreens healthcare clinics, and external providers.
• Assist the Pharmacy Manager and Staff Pharmacist in maintaining relationships with local medical providers and conducting provider outreach to healthcare groups and care facilities.
• Help maintain the Pharmacy Department’s supplies, cleanliness, orderliness, and appearance.
• Comply with Company policies and procedures and maintain respectful relationships with coworkers.
• Complete special assignments and other tasks as assigned.
• Earn and maintain PTCB certification through the designated training program and/or state-required certification or registration; otherwise, earn PTCB certification as a condition of promotion to senior technician.
• Attend training requested by the Manager, acquire continuing education credits, and maintain knowledge and skills in healthcare and pharmacy.
