The Pharmacy Department at Hartford Hospital utilizes a decentralized model with pharmacists embedded on medical teams to advise on optimal drug therapy. The department also features an ASHP accredited Pharmacy Residency program, an active Oncology infusion service, and a Retail/Specialty outpatient pharmacy. Pharmacists perform functions related to the control, monitoring, and dispensing of medications for all age groups of patients, ensuring safety, cost-effectiveness, and timeliness. They supervise medication preparation by technicians and advise nursing personnel on appropriate medication administration. Pharmacists also promote the rational use of medications by providing drug information and clinical monitoring services to the medical community.
