About The Position

UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland is seeking an enthusiastic, collaborative Per Diem Physician Assistant to join its Pediatric Orthopedic Surgery team. The PA will primarily provide independent coverage for Saturday orthopedic clinics approximately 1–2 times per month at satellite locations in Walnut Creek and the greater East Bay. The role supports evaluation and management of pediatric orthopedic patients, including acute injuries, fractures, follow-up visits, and postoperative care, in collaboration with orthopedic surgeons and the APP team. The position requires flexibility to work at UCSF Health facilities and locations.

Requirements

  • Graduation from a PA program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the PA (ARC-PA).
  • At least one year of clinical experience as a PA in the same specialty and setting.
  • California Physician Assistant license without restriction.
  • National Board Certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
  • Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) registration with Schedules 2, 2N, 3, 3N, 4, and 5 registered to a California address.
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to cope with personal stress experienced by health care providers and team members.

Nice To Haves

  • 12 months or greater PA experience in orthopedics within the past five years, including independent ambulatory patient encounters and fracture management.
  • Ability to interpret x-rays and MRI.
  • California Driver License, if required for the position.

Responsibilities

  • Provide independent coverage for Saturday orthopedic clinics approximately 1–2 times per month.
  • Evaluate and manage pediatric orthopedic patients with acute injuries, fractures, follow-up needs, and postoperative care.
  • Use sound clinical judgment, communication, self-direction, and organizational skills to meet patient needs and function independently.
  • Meet hospital credentialing and billing standards as a billable provider.
  • Submit health plan enrollment for applicable plans by the first clinical day.
  • Adhere to UCSF Medical Staff Bylaws, Rules and Regulations, Code of Conduct, PRIDE values, and applicable policies and procedures.
  • Follow UCSF policies concerning HIPAA, privacy, communication, documentation, encounter closure, and billing.
  • Attend Office of Advanced Practice Providers Orientation Sessions and the APP Onboarding Committee APP Onboarding Series.
  • Work at UCSF Health facilities and locations as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
