About The Position
This role focuses on providing effective direct care to a variety of complex patients as part of an interdisciplinary team. The nurse will manage care and implement treatment plans in collaboration with patients, families, physicians, and other healthcare team members. The position emphasizes continuous learning, seeking and providing feedback for improved clinical practice, and developing leadership skills with mentorship. The job description aligns with the AAACN Scope and Standards of Practice for Professional Ambulatory Care Nursing, the ANA Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice, and the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses with Interpretive Statements, integrated with the UVA Nursing Professional Practice Model. Key principles include Relationship Based Care (Self and Colleagues, Patients and Families), Expert Caring, Empowered Leaders, Lifelong Learners, Quality Achievement, and Innovation.
Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program required.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing required within 5 years of hire.
- 1 year of relevant experience.
- Licensed to Practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
- American Heart Association (AHA) Healthcare Provider BLS certification required.
Responsibilities
- Provides effective direct care to a variety of complex patients as part of the interdisciplinary team.

- Seeks and provides feedback for improved clinical practice.
- Assumes a beginning leadership role with mentorship.
- Supports onboarding of new team members and precepts as applicable.
- Adheres to clinical documentation guidelines.
- Comprehends outcomes data.
- Engages in performance improvement activities.
- Commits to standard work.
- Applies technologies that support patient care.
- Actively seeks to implement evidence-based practice and new knowledge generated by nursing research.
