This is a part-time, PRN position requiring 32 hours per 6-week scheduling period, with various start times and hours based on unit needs. The role involves cross-training in PACU and POCU, and includes shared weekend call responsibility. The Perianesthesia Nurse Assistant assists RNs with daily patient care, including bathing, oral hygiene, feeding, activity orders, ambulation, and therapeutic transfers. They are responsible for measuring and documenting vital signs, intake and output, and patient data, as well as accurately documenting in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR). The role also includes assisting with patient admissions, transfers, and discharges, ensuring patient call lights are accessible and answered promptly, and performing purposeful rounding. Additionally, the position involves patient positioning and transporting, assisting with nutritional needs, maintaining skin integrity, and providing special patient supplies. Responsibilities extend to collecting specimens, performing point-of-care testing, and potentially removing IVs, providing post-mortem care, and performing bladder scans. The role requires adherence to infection prevention policies, coordination of tests and treatments with various departments, and maintaining knowledge of the EHR and other computer systems for supply ordering and charge processing. Effective communication via telephone, paging systems, and the hospital information system is essential, as is compiling chart forms and verifying medical record accuracy. The position emphasizes establishing positive customer relations and contributing to a harmonious work environment, with a requirement to demonstrate age-specific knowledge and skills for patient care.
