Assists in examination and treatment of patients under direction of healthcare providers. This role involves interviewing patients, accurately taking vital signs, preparing exam rooms, assisting providers with procedures, cleaning and sterilizing instruments, performing various tests (EKGs, urinalysis, rapid tests), administering injections, managing patient portal messages, handling medication refills, ordering labs/imaging, completing prior authorizations and precertifications, communicating with patients and families, calling patients with results while maintaining confidentiality, and entering data into the EMR. The Medical Assistant is also responsible for assisting patients with mobility and transport needs, ensuring their comfort and safety, monitoring them during transport, maintaining equipment cleanliness, and providing emotional support. Duties may extend beyond normal responsibilities as directed by supervision.
