Responsibilities

  • Under the direction of the RN, the LVN gathers information for assessment and reassessment of the emergency department patients and provides nursing intervention appropriate to care.
  • The LVN practices independently within the LVN scope of practice and utilizes critical thinking skills in daily practice.
  • The LVN serves as a mentor for emergency department technicians and maintains a professional attitude and appearance at all times.
  • The LVN demonstrates knowledge related to the care of the emergency department patient and monitors patients for changes in condition or status and intervenes appropriately in a timely fashion.
  • The LVN uses effective verbal and written skills to communicate with people on all levels and is able to maintain positive working relationships with patients, families, co-workers, and physicians.
  • Participates in departmental Performance Improvement activities and monitoring as requested.
