About The Position

Requirements

• Graduation from an accredited Pharmacy Technician program, or having met Board of Pharmacy requirements to obtain registration.
• One of the following credentials: Registered Pharmacy Technician (PHRMTECHR), Certified Pharmacy Technician (PHARMC), or Pharmacy Technician (TCH).
• Knowledge of medical terminology, generic and trade pharmaceutical names, pharmaceutical calculations, and laws and regulations.
• Knowledge of different pharmacy practice settings, including controlled substance delivery and procedures.
• Ability to identify and use pharmaceutical and medical terms, abbreviations, and symbols commonly used in prescribing, dispensing, and medication record keeping.
• Basic working knowledge of legal requirements and accreditation standards, including NABP, TJC, Title XXII, DHS, DEA, FDA, and USP.
• Written and verbal communication skills to explain sensitive information clearly and professionally to diverse audiences, including non-medical people.
• Time-management and organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize assignments and meet deadlines within standardized procedures and scientific methods.
• General knowledge of computer applications such as Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and Outlook), and related pharmaceutical technology as applicable.
• Ability to perform basic inventory-management duties and the calculations and basic math needed for common dosage determination.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team, including handling multiple tasks and interruptions.
• Ability to identify, evaluate, and resolve standard problems by selecting appropriate solutions from established options.
• Ability to build collaborative relationships with peers and other healthcare providers.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, compound, package, label, and dispense medications and non-sterile nutritional products.
• Repackage and compound non-sterile products.
• Follow standards, procedures, cleaning protocols, and infection-control policies to maintain a safe medication area.
• Assist with medicine and supply inventory management and control, maintain adequate stock levels, check pricing accuracy, and complete required regulatory documentation.
• Provide pharmaceutical support to the patient's plan of care in a timely manner.
• Adhere to applicable local, state, and federal regulations, codes, policies, and procedures to ensure privacy and safety.
• May perform other specific tasks and/or orient other staff to the department.
