About The Position
Interstate Waste Services is hiring a Garbage Truck Collection Helper in Ewing, New Jersey. The position pays $21.60 per hour and involves collecting and loading refuse, primarily by hand, from customer locations into a heavy-duty sanitation vehicle. Helpers assist the driver and support safe, timely collection and disposal. Unless designated as a CDL Helper, employees may not operate a company vehicle. The role reports to the onsite Operations Manager and may also be supervised by Route Supervisors and Dispatchers. The work is year-round and steady, with a Monday-through-Friday schedule and a 6:00 a.m. start time. Helpers spend much of the day in or around the truck and must be able to mount and dismount it throughout the workday. Applicants must provide a resume or work history that includes employment dates.
Requirements
- Be at least 18 years old.
- Be legally eligible to work in the United States.
- Meet the physical standards required for the job, including repeatedly mounting and dismounting the truck and lifting, pushing, and pulling waste bags and receptacles weighing approximately 50–75 pounds or more.
- Provide a resume or list of work history with employment dates.
- Demonstrate a team-player attitude and ability to work in close quarters with other staff.
- Show reliability and punctuality; the posting also emphasizes steady employment history.
Nice To Haves
- Sanitation industry experience is strongly preferred.
Responsibilities
- Collect and load refuse, primarily by hand, from customer locations into the sanitation vehicle.
- Transfer refuse from customer stops to the vehicle safely and promptly.
- Assist the driver while the vehicle is maneuvered into collection and disposal positions.
- Maintain the vehicle and participate in its daily cleanup.
- Learn garbage routes to better assist the driver.
- Attend required training, operational meetings, and mandatory monthly safety meetings.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
