About The Position

Requirements

• National Guard membership in a compatible military assignment is required; applicants must be eligible for immediate membership if not already a member.
• Eligible military grades are CW3 through CW5 or O3 through O4; compatible military assignments are 15/153 series.
• Must meet the education requirement and possess FAA pilot certificates or appropriate military certifications and ratings for the main-frame aircraft of employment, along with required competencies.
• Must be a current Pilot in Command and meet applicable flight-hour requirements.
• Must have a high school diploma or GED diploma.
• Must have FAA certifications awarded from accredited civilian aviation programs or aviation certifications from accredited military aviation schools.
• Must have at least one year of on-the-job experience in the grade, or comparable military rank, immediately below the next higher level.
• Must have at least two years of specialized competencies operating a specific main-frame military aircraft, mission planning, and mission preparation.
• Must have at least 12 months of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level.
• Must have experience in civilian aviation programs, military aviation programs, Army National Guard Aviation Support facilities, or Air National Guard Wing/Operations Groups.
• Must have experience, training, or knowledge flying advanced military aircraft in combat situations and training or assessing pilots in complex tactical situations.
• Must have experience, training, or knowledge in advanced instrument flight instruction, combat training in advanced military aircraft, and instruction of instructor pilots in methods of instruction.
• Must have experience reviewing mission tasking, intelligence, and weather information; filing flight plans; conducting crew briefings; performing preflight inspections; and assessing aircraft loads and equipment.
• Must have experience performing or supervising navigation, in-flight refueling, search and rescue, or surveillance and reconnaissance procedures.
• Must be competent in conducting or supervising crew training for simple to complex mission-specific tasks.
• Must have experience developing plans and policies, monitoring operations, and advising commanders.
• Must have knowledge of flight theory, air navigation, meteorology, flying directives, mission tactics, and operating procedures.
• Must have experience in unit flying, explosive, and ground safety programs under applicable Department of Defense, Department of the Army, National Guard Bureau, and/or OSHA policies and directives.
• Must possess and maintain a US Army Class II Flight Physical.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance.
• Must complete a background investigation and may be required to complete a probationary period.
• Must participate in direct deposit and comply with random drug testing.
• Must wear the military uniform and use employer-provided personal protective equipment as required.
• Must establish effective professional working relationships with coworkers and customers.
• Males born after December 31, 1959, must be registered for Selective Service.
• Applicants subject to the Indiana National Guard 36-month waiting policy may need to submit an approved, signed Exception to Policy memorandum; Tenure 0 Temporary employees are exempt from this memorandum requirement.

Responsibilities

• Perform preflight weather analysis and select routes, altitudes, alternate airports, and refueling stops.
• Compute fuel, cargo, and passenger loads; conduct preflight inspections; file flight plans; and plan firing-range routes.
• Serve as a rotary-wing Unit Trainer/Evaluator or Instructor Pilot, training and evaluating aviators in basic and advanced flight techniques.
• Serve as a rotary-wing Instrument Flight Examiner, conducting instrument flight qualifications and training.
• Serve as a rotary-wing Standardization Instructor Pilot, training and evaluating instructor pilots and providing technical supervision of the standardization program.
• Serve as a Maintenance Test Pilot Examiner or Functional Check Pilot Evaluator.
• Serve as an Aviation Safety Officer and carry out duties supporting an aviation safety program.
• Serve as a rotary-wing Maintenance Test Pilot and/or Functional Check Pilot.
• Serve as an Aviation Mission Survivability Officer and Tactical Operations Officer.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
