About The Position

A Substation Estimator Manager at Irby Construction Company will be responsible for overseeing the planning, execution, and completion of multiple substation construction projects in Oklahoma and Texas. This position will require daily management, supervision, and coordination in the estimating phase of the projects. S hall possess a minimum of four years of estimating experience. The individual will possess all the skills required for assignment as a Substation Estimator Manager for any craft within his/her area of responsibility. Such an employee shall also have in depth knowledge of all applicable OSHA codes and standards.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 4 years’ experience in Estimating.
  • Bachelor's degree in construction management, electrical engineering, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience in High Voltage Substation Preferred.
  • Experience with both hard bid and negotiated.
  • Experience with conceptual estimating for budgeting of projects.
  • Candidates should have experience in the entire estimating process including bid preparation and budget preparation through completion.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Internet, MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint), MS Project.
  • Ability to maintain department tracking databases.
  • Strong customer facing and leadership experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Requires occasional overnight travel to various project sites
  • The successful candidate is a team player with effective written and oral communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Review RFPs, RFQs, drawings, and specifications to determine project scope and requirements.
  • The Estimator will review design plans and specifications in requests for proposals/bids and verify constructability and cost and schedule effectiveness.
  • Preparation of complete labor and material estimates
  • Depth of knowledge with a wide variety of electrical materials and methods of installation.
  • Read and understand civil, architectural, structural, mechanical, subsurface, etc. plans and specifications related to electrical work.
  • Experience in developing spreadsheets for major substation and line work projects: showing projects costs, man-hours and cost per man-hour / mile.
  • Candidate must be able to prioritize work to meet project estimating goals including proposal preparation, bid deadlines, cost targets and project schedules.
  • Oversee bid management, including customer site evaluations, to streamline the bidding process.
  • Conducts thorough research to ensure competitive pricing and optimal resource allocation.
  • Ensures accurate estimates and selections meet customer needs and financial objectives.
