About The Position

The Project Estimator is responsible for cultivating new and existing business relationships, establishing positive long-term relationships with business partners, and providing accurate estimates and value engineering. This role involves assuming responsibility for larger, complex projects and the entire preconstruction stage, including creating detailed project budgets, identifying tasks to satisfy contractual requirements, and ensuring estimates, schedules, and other preconstruction documents meet required standards. The Project Estimator will provide oversight for the preconstruction effort, lead a project team, and manage the estimating process from initial advertising to bid evaluation and award. This position requires coordination with multiple departments, interface with owners, architects/engineers, and trade partners to resolve technical matters, and organization of the estimating team. The role involves preparing estimates for all stages of design, performing value engineering and life-cycle costing, developing bid packages, and coordinating with Project Managers on subcontract awards.

Requirements

  • Associates degree in Construction Management or Estimating
  • 6+ years of estimating for general commercial construction
  • Solid computer skills; Proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel
  • Proficient in use of estimating software, Destini or Planswift preferred
  • Able to read drawings and specifications
  • Strong understanding of commercial construction industry practices and standards
  • Knowledge of construction costs, project budgeting, vendor selection, client proposals and owner/architect/general contractor industry expertise
  • Verifiable work references
  • Successful completion of post-offer background & drug screens
  • All positions at GH Phipps are considered safety sensitive. Position may be required to visit a construction site at any time.

Responsibilities

  • Cultivate new and existing business relationships by engaging in client pursuits, RFPs, and interviews; positively promote Company to external business partners and contacts
  • Establish and foster positive long-term relationships with all business partners including owners, architects, engineers and trade partners
  • Provide client with accurate estimates and value engineering
  • Assume single responsibility for larger, complex projects; assume overall responsibility for the preconstruction stage of each project
  • Responsible for creating detailed project budgets at conceptual, SD, DD and CD stages
  • Identify tasks to be accomplished to satisfy contractual requirements
  • Ensures estimates, schedules, constructability reviews, value engineering efforts, cost report planning and purchase planning efforts and documents meet detail, schedule and quality requirements.
  • Provide overall Preconstruction effort oversight and lead a project team and project solutions
  • Manage estimating process through initial advertising/prequalification and solicitation of trade partners, bid evaluation process and award
  • Coordinating with multiple departments to complete Preconstruction effort at all drawing milestones and ensuring other departments have required information to perform their duties
  • Interfaces with Owner, Architect/Engineers and trade partners to resolve technical matters during design or prebid, and provides engineering and cost data regarding project feasibility.
  • Organize departmental team so that each estimator involved knows responsibilities and deadlines
  • Prepare estimates for all stages of design from Conceptual through Final Construction Documents (Design/Build, Guaranteed Maximum Price, and Hard Bid diversity)
  • Perform value engineering and life-cycle costing
  • Develop and write all bid packages and trade partners scopes of work
  • Coordinates with Project Manager in award of subcontracts and writes all subcontracts
  • Fosters a positive reputation in the industry by building relationships and identifies project opportunities aligned with strategic plan and goals
  • Other duties as assigned
