Truck Driver/Equipment Operator (Resource)

About The Position
Performs difficult semiskilled work operating a refuse collection truck over an assigned route in the collection of solid waste and recyclables; transporting refuse to disposal site; operates collection site and equipment required in the functionality of County Landfill (e.g. tractor with bushhog, backhoe, rubber tire loader) as needed; performs related work as required. Work is performed under the regular supervision of the Solid Waste Collections Supervisor.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent from an appropriately accredited institution.
- One (1) year of experience in the operation of heavy automotive equipment and heavy motorized equipment.
- Possession of a Class B driver’s license valid in the State of North Carolina.
- Must possess and maintain a valid North Carolina driver’s license.
- This position is safety sensitive and subject to random drug screens.
- Must submit to a pre-employment background check, pre-employment drug test, and post offer physical.

- Thorough knowledge of traffic laws and regulations governing equipment operation.
- Thorough knowledge of safe driving practices and occupational hazards of the work.
- Skill in the operation of automotive equipment.
- Ability to understand and follow specific oral instructions.
- Ability to detect signs of the mechanical failure of the automotive and packing equipment.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates.
Responsibilities
