About The Position

Requirements

• Minimum of eighth (8th) grade education with one (1) year experience in operating light and medium equipment and trucks required.
• Possession of a valid Texas Class "A" Commercial Driver License with Tanker ("N") endorsement.
• Good working knowledge of street sweepers and loader trucks.
• Good working knowledge of other equipment such as front-end loaders, tandem trucks, or similar equipment.
• Working knowledge of all hand tools, both manual and power driven.
• Ability to effectively communicate with co-workers and citizens.
• Ability to balance, climb, crawl, crouch, walk, stand, kneel, stoop, sit, hear, feel, grasp, handle, reach, pull, push, speak, see, and write.
• Ability to make rational decisions and perform repetitive motions.

Nice To Haves

• High school education and a minimum of one (1) year experience operating sweeper preferred.

Responsibilities

• Sweeps paved alleys and curbed residential or other assigned streets within the City, hauling accumulated debris to designated disposal sites using a loader truck.
• Checks tires, oil, water, lights, fuel, etc., of sweeper and loader truck.
• Washes sweeper at the end of each shift and blows out air filters.
• Turns sweeper and loader truck into the shop for repairs, as needed.
• Greases truck-mounted front-end loader or sweeper each day.
• Cleans mud and debris from the washroom each day.
• Changes pick-up broom, gutter broom, dirt reflector, dirt shoe, etc., on sweepers.
• Builds gutter brooms and pick-up brooms when necessary.
• Completes daily job reports.
• Performs manual work when necessary to assist in the performance of various tasks.
• Operates truck-mounted snow plow, salt spinner, or chemical de-icing truck during winter emergencies.
• Operates truck up to 52,000 GVW for various hauling purposes when necessary.
• Operates front-end loader truck, as needed.
• Operates equipment in other comparable pay categories or is willing to train as needed.
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
• Responds to after-hours emergency call outs, and is required to carry an after-hours cell phone on a rotational shift.
