About The Position

STV is seeking a Structural (Bridge) Engineering Specialist for our Austin, TX office. This role involves performing routine bridge design project work, preparing field notes and reports, assisting with bridge assessments and repair options, and providing support in the production of bridge designs and plans. The position requires a mix of field and office work, strong technical skills, excellent verbal and written communication, the ability to travel for projects as needed, and teamwork capabilities. Familiarity with AASHTO, AISC, and ACI design codes, experience on Texas DOT projects, knowledge of TxDOT design manuals and standards, and proficiency in CAD packages like Open Bridge Modeler, MicroStation, and ORD are essential.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil or Structural Engineering.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification.
  • FHWA-NHI Certification 130055 Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills, attention to detail and the ability to work in a team environment.
  • Understanding of structural analysis and design of steel, concrete, and pre-stressed concrete.
  • Use and understanding of structural analysis and design software, such as Open Bridge Designer, LARSA, Leap Bridge, CSI Bridge, and STAAD.

Responsibilities

  • Perform structural engineering calculations and calculate load ratings.
  • Prepare and/or check design calculations for new and existing bridges, retaining walls, culverts, and other structures related to transportation.
  • Assist with the preparation of construction documents, including drawings and specifications.
  • Coordinate with the project manager on schedule and activities.
